Post-Surgical Lymphatic Therapy

Targeted lymphatic therapy designed to support recovery, reduce inflammation, and optimize surgical outcomes.

Surgery is a major investment in your body. Proper recovery care matters just as much as the procedure itself.

What Your Body Experiences After Surgery

Surgery - whether cosmetic or medical - causes intentional trauma within the body. As part of the healing response, the lymphatic system immediately sends fluid and immune cells to the affected areas to protect and repair tissue.

The natural response is what causes swelling (edema), tightness, and pressure following surgery.

While swelling is a normal part of the healing, excess fluids can accumulate faster than the lymphatic system is able to clear it. When this occurs, it may contribute to prolonged swelling, pressure, hardness, and in some cases, fibrosis (scar tissue formations).

Manual Lymphatic Drainage gently stimulate the lymph vessels, encouraging fluid to move back into the lymphatic pathways and filter through lymph nodes, helping your body naturally clear waste and inflammation more efficiently.

This care is especially important in the early stages of recovery.

How Manual Lymphatic Drainage Supports Recovery

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) gently stimulates the lymphatic vessels, encouraging fluid to move through the body’s natural pathways. This helps reduce congestion, supports circulation, and assists the body in healing more efficiently.

Post-operative lymphatic therapy is not about force - it is about precision, timing, and understanding how the body heals after surgery.

A Comprehensive Approach to Post-Surgical Recovery

Each post-surgical lymphatic session is thoughtfully tailored to your procedure, stage of healing, and individual recovery needs. Care is never rushed or standardized.

Your session may include:

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Gentle, targeted techniques to support lymphatic flow, reduce swelling, and promote circulation.

  • Fibrosis Prevention & Treatment

Early intervention and ongoing management of firm or lumpy tissue as healing progresses.

  • Ongoing Assessment & Treatment Adjustments

Each session is guided by how your body is responding, with care adapted as healing evolves.

  • Advanced Support Modalities (when Appropriate)

Select therapeutic technology may be integrated to enhance lymphatic flow and tissue response, supporting more efficient healing.

  • Self-Care Education & Aftercare Guidance

Verbal education and written aftercare instructions to support recovery between sessions.

  • Support Tools as Needed

Foam inserts and Vibration therapy may be introduced when appropriate to assist with fibrosis management and tissue mobility at home between sessions.

All techniques and Modalities are included as part of your care plan - there are no add-on charges.

Who Post-Surgical Lymphatic Therapy is For

Post-surgical lymphatic therapy is recommended for individuals recovering from cosmetic or medical procedures who want to support proper healing and reduce common post-surgical complications.

This service is especially beneficial for those who have undergone procedures such as:

  • Liposuction

  • Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)

  • Breast augmentation, reduction or lift

  • BBL or body contouring procedures

  • Arm, thigh and back lift or lipo

  • Other surgical procedures involving swelling and fluid retention

Clients experiencing persistent swelling, tightness, discomfort, or early signs of fibrosis often benefit from consistent lymphatic support throughout their recovery.

Each session is tailored to your stage of healing and performed with careful clinical awareness.

Begin Your Recovery with Informed Care

Post-surgical recovery is an important part of your surgical outcomes. Lymphatic therapy offers gentle support to help your body heal efficiently and comfortably.

Clinical Benefits of Post-Surgical Lymphatic Care

Swelling & Inflammation

Encourages lymphatic flow, reducing fluid retention and discomfort.

Bruising & Stiffness

Supports micro-circulation to help the body reabsorb trapped blood and improve tissue mobility.

Fibrosis (firm or lumpy tissue)

Helps soften early fibrotic tissue and reduce the risk of long-term adhesions.

Pain & Pressure

Decreases swelling around nerves, promoting greater comfort and ease of movement.

Healing & Recovery Time

Supports detoxification and immune function, helping the body heal more efficiently.

Overall Comfort

Most clients report feeling lighter, less tender, and more mobile after each session.

Post-operative lymphatic therapy is tailored to each stage of healing and performed with careful clinical awareness.

Post-Surgical Treatment Timeline

Post-surgical lymphatic therapy is typically Provided as a series of sessions, adjusted based on your procedure, healing response, and individual recovery needs.

Most clients benefit from 6-12 sessions throughout their recovery. Fibrosis and tissue changes often develop in the later stages of healing, which is why on going monitoring and treatment are important.

Below is a general example of a treatment schedule commonly recommended after procedures such as liposuction or tummy tuck:

  • Weeks 1-2:

(2-3) sessions per week to support early swelling reduction, fluid movement and decrease pain.

  • Weeks 3-8:

(1-2) sessions per week as swelling decreases and tissues begin to remodel.

  • Week 9+: Weekly sessions as needed for continued healing, fibrosis management, and maintenance.

Session frequency may vary based on type of surgery, areas treated, and your individual healing process. Your therapist will assess your recovery at each visit and adjust care as your body heals.

Treatment frequency and duration will be discussed during your visit and tailored to your stage of recovery.

Scheduling a Pre-Operative Consultation is Recommended

It is highly recommended to schedule a pre-operative consultation prior to your surgery date. This allows us to:

  • Create a personalized post-op treatment plan based on your procedure and recovery goals.

  • Perform a full-body lymphatic detox to help prepare your system and promote optimal surgical outcomes.

  • Review timing, frequency, and any surgeon specific instruction for post-op care.

Call 757-504-2113 for consultation.

  • Most clients begin once drains are removed and your surgeon clears you, typically around 1-2 weeks post-op.

  • This varies based on the type of surgery, number of areas treated, and how your body heals. Most clients complete 8-12 sessions over the first 6-8 weeks.

  • Absolutely not. We will never reopen or manipulate incision sites. MLD encourages internal lymph flow, helping your body move excess fluids and eliminated naturally.

  • MLD is a medically based technique using gentle, directional strokes that target the lymphatic system, not muscle tissue. It does not use deep pressure or kneading.
